Photographer

model

MUA

Set designer

but the photographer is the main one as a decent photographer can make a bad model look good, but a good model can't do the same for a bad photographer.

Either, neither, or both... Thats a pretty subjective question. Its like asking whats better, mac or PC, Xbox or ?? Lots of opinions. Lots of arguing sometimes. A good photographer will get the technical requirements of the photos right, and probably have an idea or 2 about getting a pose or look from a model. Sometimes, a photographer migh t goof, but the model gave something that saved the photo. And, dont forget the stylists, art directors, props masters, etc..., that have lots to do with large scale shoots. Team work. Yeah!! If a photo works for you, about the art, the expression of the photo, whatever, that is all you need. There are no absolutes.

Hi,

Tough question! But (as a professional photographer) I'm going to say the photographer.

A good photographer can create a great photograph of an inexperienced amateur model.

But a fabulous, stunning, beautiful, talented, experienced model with an inexperienced amateur photographer is extremely unlikely to get decent photos. If he can't "nail" the exposure and doesn't understand composition, studio lighting, can't select just the right aperture for depth of field, and shutter speed to stop the action but remain in synchronization with the strobe lights, the results will be junk.

Sorry, models. I love you, think you are great, respect and admire your talents and abilities. I know how hard you work. But many of you will agree - bad photographer = bad pictures.

As far as I can tell photographers are often the guys running around fitting it all together, but that only works if there are things to fit. A good photographer who's patient enough to work with a bad model may eventually get something useable, but for it to really work, you need collaboration. Unfortunately though a bad photographer tends to bring the bad out of everyone else. For it to work as it should you need a good team (not just photographer and model) for it to fail miserably you can manage with just a bad photographer.

By the way in this case bad photographer doesn't refer to the photographers failings as a camera technician but to the photographers failings as a "people manager".

I think it's a variation of several things working together to create a professional photo of that caliber. The model knowing how to pose and there ability to follow direction well to assist the photographer in the shoot. Also the actual skill of the photographer and there style as well as there understanding of proper studio lighting and other equipment while utilizing angles to capture the best shots possible.

Both. With a bad photographer, you get a bad picture. With a bad model, you get a bad picture. With a good one of each, you get a good picture.

A truly good photographer can make the worst subject look appealing. That's the difference between an average photog and a really good one. It's also why really good photographers make as much money as they do and are so sought after by fashion magazines etc.

Like theater, TV, and movies, model/fashion photography is a collaborative art which includes the ad writers, set designers, makeup, etc. And like those others, the public in most cases only identifies the visible representative - the model in this case.

both make the picture because if it werent for both of them working together tthere wouldn't be a great picture that we see in the pages of magazines or other stuff
