I need to find out if a photo is high resolution. I have photoshop and I know where to look to see image size and resolution but how do I know if that is high or low?

Resolution means pixels per inch of an image. The normal screen resolution is 72 pixels per inch or 72 ppi as you may call it. But if you want to print the image just make sure the resolution should be much higher; for eg: 300 ppi. This is the reason why you have varying prices for cameras depending upon the ppi or resolution; eight and twelve mega pixel cameras can give you great quality; telescopic view indeed!!! Hope I could clear your doubt, you can still get back to me for further queries! :)

Usually you can tell automatically by the size of the image when opening it up in photoshop. A resolution of 72 would be low and a resolution of 300 would be high.

Use the magnifying glas tool, zoom in a few times. If the image looks like its made of loads of little blurred boxes its likely to be low resolution

If you have Photoshop, or any similar software, you can go to image size and see the pixels of the image, then follow the instructions other gave you here.

Resolution is really subjective term. One way is by finding out how far you have to zoom in to actually see the pixels. According to me, for most applications, if you zoom in 400% and still the pixels are not big, thats good enough.
Hope that helps.

"High" is relative. On a monitor pics that are 1280x and 72dpi might be high res. But if you plan to print, it must be 300 dpi minimum and as big as possible.
