A client has purchased from my company the copyrights to her wedding photos. My question is, how do i give her these rights in a visual way so that when she goes to print them people won't think she's lying when she says she has the copyrights. Can it be as simple as me telling her to give them my company number and have them call to confirm it? Is there a template or example of a letter i could write up to give to my client saying i give her full copyright permissions?

A letter, with letterhead, signature and phone number.

You don't need a template, just text that states that you have assigned full copyright to her on a certain date.

Whether or not anyone gives her grief is totally out of your control, nor should you have to deal with it. Legally, the letter is all you need.

It needs no more than a letter stating that you are the original owner, and that you have transferred the copyright for images taken on a particular day for a particular purpose of a particular subject to the new owners.

If you wish, you could include the information in the EXIF or IPCC data attached to each file (tedious without the right software).

However, I suggest that you transfer only limited rights (to reproduce, share etc. All the things your client really wants to do), but retain the right to use the photographs for self-promotion, advertising your own company (eg posting on your website), training purposes and entry into competitions. Specifically exclude "commercial purposes" and sales to third parties, and everyone should be happy.

I would draft a letter with the details, sign it, and have it notarized. I would give her the letter and keep a copy on file.
