I am trying to teach myself how to use the gimp photoshop program
I was wondering if there was any simple way to reduce grain and improve sharpness of digital pictures.
The pictures were taken with a low quality and older digital camera so they are blurry and grainy.
What do I have to do in photo shop programs to fix this.
By the way, auto correct does almost nothing to the pictures.

The most simplest way is to go to the filter section and slightly blur the photo using gaussian blur. You could also choose despeckle which pretty much does the same thing with less control. You can then go back and use the sharpen filter to bring some of the definition back in or play with levels in one of the Edit dropdown menu options (I think it's mode?).

most digital grain i cause by poor lighting, you can try something like Noise Ninja to reduce some of it, if it was taken on a low mega-pixel camera and is blurry then there is not much of anything you can do other than try taking the picture over with better lighting.

But practice all yo want on those bad shots... then when you get the good ones you'll feel more confident.

If it's well lit and just a matter of high ISO noise then a program like Noise Ninja or Neat Image can smooth it out (and make some cool effects at that). But if it's blurry you can't fix it.

No questions asked, the best site for Photoshop tutorials is: http://www.learnphotoediting.link

All tutorials are in video format, which makes them easier for you to follow along with the instructor. The videos are interactive and very easy to follow, this will help you learn piano three times faster. Good Luck!

Open it in camera raw and use the sharpen/noise reduction options in the "Detail" tab. Can't see the picture from the link you posted. EDIT: You can take noise out of this shot, but you'll also destroy what very little detail there is. Sorry.
