I received both programs for christmas and realize I don't need both. Which program do you think is better? I take a wide variety of pictures. I don't have a dslr, but I do have a Cannon SX20IS which lets me take close quality pictures as dslr's. The pictures saved on this camera are compressed jpeg photos, not raw images. Anyone lean one way or the other?

Before you open either, you can instantly download and run the free trial of Photoshop Elements 9 to help decide. Then if you want to keep it, you can just enter the serial number from inside the box

OK... Here I am to break the tie;-) I use both programs. I started out with Elements version 1 and like to do my basic tweaking with Elements but, although I've gotten into adding plugins and actions to Elements, sometimes I need to do more with my images and/or text, so I save in the psd format, open in PSP, do what I want to do, save in psd again and reopen in Elements if I have to. PSP does some things - like text - that Elements can't do. PSP's Photo Filters give the best black and white images. It has an excellent background eraser. PSP also allows me to quickly make fancy backgrounds. And it has much better art tools than Elements and has vector graphic capabilities.

I find that with both programs I have all the functionality of Photoshop and a lot more.

I've worked with Elements since it was Three, now I use Eight and really like the versatility plus all the free plug ins I find on line. http://www.flickr.com/photos/perki88/
