I bought my girlfriend a heart locket for her birthday, and I want to put a picture of me inside it. How can I resize a picture and put it in the locket?

- Thanks

You are not going to be able to print out a photo that fits the locket. You have to size your image in a program such as Photoshop to the size needed for the locket. You then drop this resized photo onto a 4 x 6 inch "canvas" size and print the 4 x 6 inch photo. The photo that you want in the locket is then cut out from the 4 x 6 inch white background.

To size a photo in Photoshop, you go to Image - Image Size, and in the box you will put in your dimensions and ppi number (300). More than likely you will be downsizing the photo, so you will select Bicubic Sharper as the resize method.

When you create the 4 x 6 canvas, (File - new), be sure you set the ppi to 300 to match your photo before dropping the photo onto the 4 x 6.

If you cannot do this, you can send me the photo you want sized, tell me the exact size you need the photo to be to fit in the locket, and I will resize it for you onto a background that can be printed on a 4 x 6 inch photo.

Whichever editor you have will do to make it smaller, although a good one (such as Photoshop, Elements, PSP or Gimp) will let you sharpen it nicely, too.

Measure the locket, then resize the photo. At this point, you may even consider using MS Publisher because it makes this part so easy.

Because it is always quite annoying to get the size perfect, I would prepare a number of different options, i.e. size one of them to what you THINK is perfect, then make a few slightly smaller and a few slightly bigger ones. Put them all next to each other (and because of their tiny size they will still fit onto a very small area) and print them out. Now you can use a paper template of the locket to pick the perfect sized print before you actually trace and cut out the shape.
