I need to find a Quick Release Platform/ Quick Shoe for a Miranda Titan-606 tripod, in order for it to fit primarily a Nikon D40, and secondarily a Nikon D40x and a Canon EOS 500 (film).

Any help in finding one or on where to get one would be mighty helpful! Brownie points if I can get it from the UK!

I cannot find any pictures of that tripod that allow you to see the head. There is a bit of uniformity in the quick releases and I would check to see whether the Manfrotto rectangular or the hexagonal would work.

Strictly speaking you probably will need a whole new tripod, as most tripods with a screw fitting only are low budget products with non-interchangeable heads. You could however be naughty, and simply buy a lightweight head (e.g. Manfrotto 460MG), and use a 3/8" to 1/4" bush (adapter) to fit the new head on top of your existing head. Of course there is no guarantee that this approach will give you stable results, however at the very least you will have some form of workable quick release.

It is almost impossible to find new plates for Miranda tripods. They were made specifically for the Dixons chain which no longer exist. Consequently spare parts are no longer manufactured. Almost all quick release plates are slightly different so the chances of finding another late to fit are miniscule. You could try going to a camera shoop and asking them to try plates to find one that fits but it's unlikely and even if you do find one that goes into the slot there is likely to be play which you don't want in a camera stand.

Sadly it may be time to retire your trusted stand and invest in a new one.
