It looks like you enjoy photography but you need a lot of improvement in the area of exposure, composition and focus. You also need to work with more than a point and shoot camera. I suggest you start with a beginners photography course in college and see how you improve.

Well, changing an image to B&W or sepia IS what most people call editing. (Although real editing is selecting the better photos out of a group and eliminating the not so great ones, which you also need to do.)

You have an interesting collection, and I like your subject matter. Your exposure, focus, and composition all need more attention. The first photo of the budgies is not in focus at all. Not a keeper, much less a "portfolio" image. The kitten, while cute, suffers from harsh flash and the blown basket in front completely takes the attention away from the subject. You might try to re-crop, but it would be better to re-shoot, and take command of your flash and exposure.

The weathered planks with the nail are sharp, and the exposure looks good, but the composition is not exciting.

Snow bird has apparently been cropped from a larger image, and is too soft. Same with cardinal, too soft and not enough detail. Bird photography takes some long lenses and good technique to do well.

I think you have a nice start. If you want to take photography in school, I think that would be fine. You will learn about the technical and artistic things your images are missing now. You might want to major in some other subject and minor in photography, that way you will have a career to fall back on. Especially make sure you take some business classes. More photography businesses fail because of lack of business skill than lack of photography skill. Good luck and best wishes in your future!

The photos are great! They show that you have a keen eye and talent for being a professional photographer. I am not sure if you need to get a degree in photography unless you plan on teaching it. Do continue taking photo classes to learn more, but concentrate on a degree that you could do as well as taking pictures. As far as darkroom work, photography is going the way of digital—film is going out. While in school look for opportunities for practical experience. Work for the college newspaper or for a photo business.

Good Luck!

you need to improve your focusing, and you should play around with the settings

really anybody can take a handful of nice pics

but photographers have to work their asses off to get the GREATEST EVER pics right?

soo get out there and improve your usage of the camera, get to know it

also i really like the board and nail pic oh and the pond

p.s. learn not to over edit your pics. it's hard but sometimes they look good just originally

Wow, i really like your pics! Especially the one with the kitten and the one of the lake. If this is something you are passionate about, (which you seem to be) you should definitely make a career out of it! Go for it!

Best of luck to you!

every subject seems to be dead center in the middle of each frame. and there arent any particularly interesting angles.

i suggest researching some free or cheap classes around you to learn a little more diversity in the pictures you take.
