Tomorrow I am going to get some 8 x 10s printed for a contest, I am printing them at Costco. I'm just not sure what the best file type is, to save them as. Help!

Costco is probably not the best place to go to have prints made for a competition.

Generally speaking, I stick with 16 bit images for printing, but I am sure Costco will only take 8bit jpegs. Just make sure you have them set to the highest quality and that you crop and resize them yourself since 8X10 is not considered full frame.

Just use jpeg set to highest quality. You could use tiff images, which are uncompressed - although the file sizes will be much larger than jpeg. Ultimately, tiff files will be the best quality.

Just make sure you use the full size images at the size they came out of your camera - make sure you use the maximum file size/quality setting in your camera.

There is absolutely no need to change the resolution of an image prior to printing. The PPI / DPI is irrelevant. What matters is the dimensions of the image in pixels (the more pixels, the more you can enlarge). When you get the image printed, the equipment they have at costco will enlarge or reduce the image to fit on the sheet.

Consumer grade printing companies like costco will mess up anything but jpg. So, save as largest quality jpg

You should probably use .jpg files, 'jpeg' files. They're high quality. Make sure you use a program like Photoshop to adjust the resolution on your photos so they'll look their best when printed!
