Have a look on the Canon website, it is very informative and helpful. Then go to a reputable photographic / camera shop and see what second hand cameras they have, but be sure to get a guarantee when you buy as everthing is now basically electronic and repairs out of warranty can be expensive.

See if you can find out why the previous owner sold it.

Ask yourself why you really want a DSLR and have a look at the Canon IXUS and PowerShot ranges.

I only suggest this because I got fed up with my SLR camera as it was too bulky to take everywhere and I found that the Canon IXUS does everything I need and more.

Hope this helps.

Ive bought a Sony A300 that is well however should you wish a well zoom then get the Sony A300 Body simplest and a zoom lens. A DSLR is a virtual SLR so and SLR takes pix onto movie and a DSLR shops them on a reminiscence card

That Lumix camera is not a true SLR. There are no new DSLRs for £250, though a little over £300 would get you one. The Lumix has a small sensor (lots of megapixels, but physically small) so a bit harder to get the blurred background. You might find last year's DSLR at £250, or a good second-hand one. Buy from a shop to get a guarantee, you get no serious guarantee from a seller on eBay. With your small scale of knowledge you need a guarantee.
