At the end of the day it comes down to the image. The camera is just a tool. Most contributors to photography magazines use DSLRs, so I guess it's natural that the articles tend to skew in that direction. While they average photography magazine may not be directly aimed at you....in the same way as they aren't directly aimed at people who use medium format or rangefinder....or entry lever DSLRs for that matter, I do think they are useful for any photographer.

This happens across the board i.e. African-American Music Awards, Hispanic Educational Groups, etc. Minorities have had to deal with racism. They feel that they need to get the pendulum to swing the other way by going to the other extreme i.e. reverse-racism. Look at music. African-Americans have music that say N***** in it. If a white person were to use that, it would be racist. Two wrongs don't make a right. I agree that Caucasians can do all 'white' TV channels etc but we're not the group that is the minority. I think celebrating Black Entertainment is ok. That's a way of coping with the prevalent Corporate stigmas and being proud of their heritage...the catch is, so long as they are not hurting anyone. There is a big difference between the following: - Black people saying "I'm Black and I'm Proud and all White people suck for what you've done to our people." and - the same stating "I'm Black and proud and we are entitled to fair treatment and respect." Maybe the pendulum does need to be swung the other way by using an extreme. I honestly don't think that strategy will be successful long term though. Corporate and capitalist America sure hasn't made it easy for any minorities.

The User's Manual is enough to know your camera and all its functions.
Read about Photography , which is not camera specific.
Check out photography sites on the net on tutorials, composition , lighting etc.
I would recommend either Amateur Photographer or Photography. I have found that if you enter "photography" in the search box of many browsers, a mass on information is accessible
