Hi. I have been collecting autographs for a few years and came into a small collection of mainly inscribed photos. How can I remove the inscriptions off of the photos without ruining anything? They are signed in black and silver sharpie and they are on glossy photos.
Thanks!

Warning: Do not try this on a valuable photo, try first on a bad photo you don't want to keep.
This trick works for removing permanent marker/sharpie (even the industrial strength version) off of glossy surfaces.
Take a normal whiteboard dry-erase marker (black is fine) and scribble all over the sharpie making sure to cover the entire written area (it won't affect the photo itself).
Erase with a tissue or a dry-erase eraser, and smile at you're new found trick.
I learned this working as a 2nd Assistant in the film industry, and my wife uses it in her classroom all the time now.
Hope this helps!

91% rubbing alcohol, carefully applied, should take the sharpie right off without harming the photo. Try it on something unimportant first, though.
Don't use anything lower than 91%, though, as it could swell the emulsion and cause damage to the photo.
