Is it at all possible to turn bitmap photographs into j-pegs, if so how?

Some of my more elderly friends have in the past sent me bitmap photo's for inclusion into a Family Tree. Although I ask for Jpegs they do not have the computer knowledge to do this, so is there any way that I can easily convert Bitmap images into Jpeg. Thank you

I use a free program called IrfanView. Just open the file and "save as" as different file type, in your case, jpeg. Find it here:

You dont want specific application, you are able to convert bitmaps to jpegs in MS paint, in basic terms load it into the relativly crapy software and click save as and alter the style to 24-bit bitmap. the want be no loss of accuracy by making use of paint, you will finally end up with the comparable high quality as a 500 pound replica of photoshop

Can't you just load them into Irfanview and then "Save As" JPEG.

open in paint. File save as...and select jpeg.

Load it into a graphics program... and use the Save As option and change format

Hi,man,perhaps you can scan that images and then ask some designer to convert the images into

vector file and they can save that image into jpg file.
