When you do a File - Save As, you will have the option of picking from a long list of formats, one of which is JPEG. Be aware, the file must be 8 bit to convert to Jpeg. You cannot make a Jpeg from a 16 bit file.

Into a smaller file? I don't understand.

1. If you want to change something to a smaller size, then just resize it, with the crop tool or with the adjustment at the top.

2. If you want to save it as a jpeg, click the save as button. When the save as box comes up, go to the format thing below the file name thing (I'm doing a really bad job describing) and then choose the jpeg option.

It's got to be a RBG and 8 bits channel before it can be save as JEPG.

Image > Mode

It doesn't have to be flatten it will be temporarily done when when it's saved as a jpeg, automatically.

Edit CS5 will automatically convert 16 bit to a 8 bit when it's saved as a JPEG

In Word, go to Insert > Picture > From File and insert your JPEG. Then save the document and viola! A .doc that's just a picture. Lord knows why you would want to do that?

You may have to flatten or merge before using save as to get JPEG as an option.

You should be able to use the "File" menu option "Save As...". If that doesn't let you select saving to a jpg file, look for an "Export" option.
