I have found lots of film cameras at thrift stores but do you think it would be common to find digital cameras at some ? I am trying to get my hands on some cheap ones.

I have seen the occasional digital camera in our local Goodwill store. Whether or not I would buy one is another matter. There is just too much to go wrong with these cameras, (compared to the dirt basic point and shoot 35mm that are always is mass supply). Keep in mind, items are donated to these type of stores. Most people are not going to give away a digital camera unless it is really screwed up. Don't buy someone else's problem. Either shop reliable outlets for a used digital camera or buy one of the very cheap 35mm film cameras from the thrift store. Most of them function fine, people give them away when they change over to digital, which to me is a stupid thing to do, but that is another story. Buy cheap color film and have it processed at Walmart or such places. It will give you better results than some old, 1 or 2 megapixel digital camera. If you happen to see a Sony Mavica digital camera on a shelf, RUN, don't walk away from it. Those were very early digital cameras and are HORRID.

ADD: NO, I do not agree with your logic. Buying a digital camera that does not work is just throwing money away, money that could be put toward a working film camera. You are certainly not going to learn anything about photography with a camera that does not work.

Yes, you can find digital cameras at thrift stores. They will all be older models, but if all you're looking for is a cheap camera, then that'll probably do.

I would suggest looking on Craigslist first. There's a lot of people looking to get some extra cash from their old digital (and film) cameras. You'll likely have a bigger selection, and you can search through them all from your own home.

just look at the mega pixels. there are some cameras for cheap with higher mexapixels. they take decent pictures for a camera around 150-200 dollars. if you want a nice camera with clear hots expect to pay over 200-500..

Not really a good idea. It won't be cost effective. You won't know if it works or not. Is the battery any good ? Cords missing ? Memory card ?

You can get good deals on refurbished cameras.
