I'm really into photography, but I've usually just had it as a hobby. Lately, I've been dedicating more time to it because I've been getting recognized here and there.

I've already had two people say they'd like to buy some of my prints. The problem is, I'm new to this. I don't know what size I should print them out or for how much I should sell them for..

Help!

Your camera MP dictates the reasonable limits to reproduction of prints and, if you don't shoot large file sizes, you are limiting even further, the capability to produce larger prints.

I looked at your images and there are some interesting ones. I can believe that you might have had requests for prints but did they talk money? That's the problem with some people, they want you to provide them with a print they like but at no cost to them... pretty stupid, eh?

The price you charge is relative to the person you are selling to.

That's right. If I'm in an affluential neighborhood, I might jack up my price considerably compared to working in an average income neighborhood. If they look like they can afford to pay more, you want more for it. The funny thing is, some people think it's worth more if they pay more for it.

It's all about business sense. If someone has $20 to purchase something of yours, do you ask for only $10? No. They have $20 to spend so you want all of it.

As far as Selling prints of your work, there is etsy, cafepress, zazzle, and deviantart. Etsy for me is too much of a hassle b/c I need to actually handle the shipping and printing and everything.

Personally I use SMugmug.com as a printer and shipper of my work. they give you a whole gallery option and pricing plans. They have their bare minimum prices, and you keep anything over that amount. Say it costs them $2.30 to print out and ship an 8×10 print. if you price it for $12, you get 10 bucks.

Here is an example of my smugmug gallery.

Prints can sell for a wide range of prices. If your not sure you should ask people how much they'd be willing to pay. If you wan't you can send some of your photos to evilpurplechicken@yahoo.com.au and i'll tell you how much i think they'd be worth, though i understand if you dont want to put them on the net if you planning to sell them.

It's also probably best to ask someone who doesen't have a direct intrest in bying them, so you get a more honest answer.

And after you've sold a few you can probably expect to put your prices up.

Hope this helps ^-^
