Question:
Modelling Competition Advice?

I'm keen on entering a modelling competition for teenage girls. The prize is a two year contract, so I'm very excited and hopeful about it.

The entry requirement just says one photo?
This is so broad! Does anyone have any suggestions for the mood/theme/style/pose/'look" for the picture that would help me be selected for the finals?

What gives me a better chance of being selected?
A classic style? Something outrageous? Sexy? Pure beauty? Glamourous/Formal style? An everyday, natural kind of take?

Shall I smile? Blank/open expression?
What shall I wear? How shall I pose?
What will get me noticed?
Is it best that I get a photo done with a professional photographer and send it in?

I'm just looking for suggestions,
Thanks.

'modeling competitions' are mostly scams.

everyone wins somethng.

everyone gets 'signed' by the agency sponsoring the event.

why?

because they want your money. they tell you that you can be a model then offer you classes or a shoot with a pro photog or both. either way its very expensive for YOU.

dateline nbc just did an expose' on barbizon and how they offer hopes and dreams to girls who have no chance of being models. you should watch it before you spend a dime.

if you really want to be a model read every word at www.newmodels.com 90% of what you need to know is there.

Ok firstly, the judges would want to see you without makeup, this doesnt mean no makeup at all it means minimal/natural makeup, they dont want you caked with it because its hard to see your facial expression and they cant see how you really look.

as for what to wear, it really depends on what type of shot that is. You want something which is tight preferably, and something which will compliment your body figure, because they need to be able to see your figure.

now for the background, well you would either take a classic shot where its done on a plain background, like white/light grey. Or if you really want you could go out to an interesting place and take a photo. But make sure the focus is on YOU.

You want a pose which isnt too "overrated" or "overusd". So the one hand on hip, one hand on head is not a good idea. Find a pose which is special and model-like, but make sure you're in a comfy position.

For facial expressions, well I suggest you do not smile, because when you actually do modelling, most people dont smile. Make sure your facial expressions are fierce, yet natural if its supposed to be. However this really depends on you, if you are more comfortable smiling then do so. but only do if you have a NATURAL smile.

Hi,

If you are looking at getting into modelling a shoot with a pro is a good place to get experience.

A good pro photographer will offer you a varied portfolio and certainly provide 1 great shot for your competition

I do a lot of models portfolios in Perth WA and often my clients have had not experience before they come to us.

All the best and I hope you get a contract.

Yours Nathan,
