I have a Nikon D60 and want to get more comfortable with my manual mode and would like to find a good site ( even a book) with tips and techniques. I have been experimenting with my photography but can't quite achieve the shot I am looking for. I do a lot of portraits.

thanks for your help!

I would suggest playing around with lighting a bit more. It's a good rule of thumb, especially with outdoor portraits, to have the light behind you when you're taking your picture (and hitting your subject). Also, your framing definitely needs work. Composition is important in photography and although the still life photographs are framed well the portraits of people are too centered - and you cut them off at the forehead in pretty much every picture. If you have to cut any of their head off (lol) at least do it at the hairline, as you did in "Laugh", so we can see their entire face.

The best tip to learn photography is to look at other professional photographers' work. Check out http://www.fotoperson.com/ , this is a photographer directory with thousands of professional photographers listed by location.
