What books do you recommend to become a better photographer. I need to better understand what settings to set my camera to and what they all mean. ISO for instance?

I think the best writer on the subject of photography is Freeman Patterson- but I also happen to think he's the best photographer in the world. Click on the book covers to see some of his work- all special effects done on film, in camera, with NO computer manipulation. Just pure skill and knowledge. There are also links to his books at the top of the page

I use Michael Freeman's books and Scott Kelby's books as well.

You need a book on basic photography. There are many good beginner's books, the Kodak SLR book is great if you can find a copy, Digital For Dummies is good as well. For advancing in understanding, anything ny Bryan Peterson, especially "Understanding Exposure", and Scott Kelby.

I suppose the primary e-book you must learn is the guide that comes together with your digicam. If you have got a brand new DSLR, you ought to understand all of the capabilities. After that, you'll be able to gain knowledge of by way of path and blunder. I suppose all of the newbie books are identical. They all duvet the equal factor. But those elementary capabilities also are included on your digicam guide. So I would possibly not waste cash.

One book out of which I've gotten much mileage is "Photography," coauthored by John Upton, now in its ninth (!) edition. Because it's a textbook - I used the fourth edition in my college darkroom course - expect to pay for it (I've seen it for over $100 new at Barnes & Noble). But, it's the BEST bang for your buck, because it's so useful.
