How to adjust the image canvas size without loosing pix in Photoshop CS-4?

Ok, so what I'm trying to do is readjust the canvas size of my image after coping. While editing in Photoshop Cs-4, I have the ability to zoom in and out of my photo... With that in mind, I need to attempt to zoom out of the image in order to restore the quality of the picture back to normal. Right now, whenever I open the image, in Windows Photo Viewer, it is usually distorted more than I like. Is there any way of adjusting the image to a smaller canvas size without loosing the pixel quality of the photo, and how would I do that?

Thanks!

Sounds like you are trying to unscramble an egg. I'm not totally following what you are saying, but it sounds like you are wanting to make your photo smaller in order to try to make it look a little better. Just do that in the photo resize dialog, then create a new canvas size at your intended print size, and drop your smaller photo into it. Be sure the resolutions match between your photo and new canvas.

You said "any way of adjusting the image to a smaller canvas size without loosing the pixel quality of the photo".

The answer would be no. If you make an image smaller by rescaling it you will lose pixels, and data, and quality.

If you then saved over your original file by overwriting it, then I'm afraid your goose is cooked. There is no way to get back what you have removed.

You may notice that there is a 'duplicate' function with photo editing.

USE IT RATHER THAN WORKING ON YOUR ORIGINAL.

You've learned a tough lesson,... don't repeat it.
