I wnat to go up north this fall to Maine or Vermont for the changing of the leaves. The internet of course is being of no use to me. Has anyone here been to an area in one of those states taking photos and where would you reccommend?

I grew up in Northern Vermont, the foliage is gorgeous...there are several mountains Like Jay peak, Mt. Mansfield ( you can take the trams up to the top for GREAT pics!

A few good places here in Maine are the Moosehead Lake/Greenville area, the Camden Hills area, and Acadia National Park.
The state's Department of Conservation operates a Web site that gives fall foliage updates beginning in September: http://www.mainefoliage.com

Anywhere in New England can be good for fall foliage photography. I lived in Connecticut for eight years and got heavily into photography at that time. I would look for places where you can find a variety of settings nearby, like Mount Mansfield or Emerald Lake in Vermont. I always liked to have water nearby for reflections, and some hills to get some vistas.
