I just did Maternity photos for a friend. They're perfect, but when she uploaded them to Facebook they turned out horrible. Megapixel mess and the quality is awful. I don't want my work to look like this because I'll never get appreciated as a photographer. How do I resize for Facebook? I know they won't be perfect, but I atleast want a majority of the quality on my computer. Thanks!

Do an Image Size (Ctrl+Alt+i) in Photoshop using Bicubic Sharper resampling (the bottom drop down menu). Use the exact resolution that Facebook wants so that it doesn't do the resizing.

There is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Facebook adds compression to all images you upload. The quality is awful. Resizing first will not work either - facebook will still add lots of jpeg compression. Changing the file format to PNG won't help either, because facebook will still convert the image to jpeg and add compression

The problem is facebook - that's why proper photographers don't use facebook to show off their work.

If you want better quality image sharing you are going to have to use another image sharing site like flickr or something. Or even better, create your own website.

Resize your photo before you upload it. These are the sizes we support:

Regular photos 720 px, 960 px, 2048 px

Cover photos 851 px by 315 px

If you use a 2048 px photo, make sure to select the High Quality option when you upload it.

To avoid compression when you upload your cover photo, make sure the file size is under 100 KB.

Save your image as a JPEG with an sRGB color profile.

Select Resample

Be sure Constrain Proportions is checked.

Set resolution to 72 ppi

You need to set the maximum dimension to 800 pixels on the longest side.

Use Bicubic Sharper

Click ok

Save As Jpeg with compression of 5

This will give you excellent quality on Facebook.

The above specs are done in the Image Size dialog box in Adobe Photoshop.

.......

Another method, again with Adobe Photoshop, is to simply do a Save For Web and the photo will pretty much be automatically set up at the above specs.

If you have any working knowledge of Photoshop and actions you can download actions for free that will do it in one step. Super easy....

This site has a set of actions including the resize. I love this set. Learning to use photoshop actions is actually fairly simple if you don't know how. You can find directions all over the web or YouTube... but it is fast and very easy.

A screen can only display 72 dpi, so ensure your resolution is set to that,

the Photoshop answer is ideal, however if you don't have it try the tool http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/

it is simple to use from within explorer.
