Please help me edit this photo?

Question

Long story short, I need to use this photo in a project and I cannot retake it. I'm not asking for anyone to edit the photo, but instead to give me suggestions because I've been experimenting with Photoshop CS3 but I just cannot make it look good.

I do not think there is anything technically wrong with the photo, the problem is that the colors are all so similar and it is hard for the turtles to stand out.

Maybe try turning it black and white?

Since the tones in the background were lighter than the tones in the turtle, you could make it stand out a bit more.
